Budo Scholar · A Budo Accelerator Program

Budo Scholar

A leadership program for martial artists.

How the program works

You train at your martial arts school, and this program runs alongside it.

If you haven't started training yet, we will give you some tips on how to find a martial arts school. If you already practice, you keep training at your own school, in whatever art or arts it teaches. The program layers a lightweight leadership curriculum on top of your training: about twenty minutes a week on the platform, plus one idea you carry into your martial arts training and your life off the mat.

Each week follows four steps.

Step 1

This Week's Idea

Four to six minutes, to read or listen to. One idea per week.

Step 2

Off the Mat

A short exercise in the app: a writing prompt, or a self-assessment. Some weeks it also asks you to try something as you move through your day.

Step 3

On the Mat

A challenge you carry into that week's martial arts training.

Step 4

The Check

A short reflection or quiz. Finish it and you earn the week's badge.

The community

Program life runs on the Budo Discord. Ask questions, explore leadership and martial arts topics with peers and mentors, and connect with other martial artists your age from around the country.

The Five Phases

  1. Foundations

The base everything that follows is built on: stance, breath, falling, learning to read the room.

  2. Self-Mastery

Taking control of your attention and your fear, and learning to recover when failure finds you.

  3. Perception

Reading a room, a person, a moment. Noticing what others miss.

  4. Connection

Training with others: building trust and alliances, and learning to repair important relationships when they go wrong.

  5. Leadership

Leading with integrity and dignity. Unlocking the power of a team, and learning to think for yourself when it matters most.

Budo Scholar turns the dojo into a laboratory for life.

Training already teaches you to stay calm under pressure, hold your ground, and use power with integrity. This program teaches you how to extend that off the mat and into the rest of your life, giving you the power to shape yourself and your future the way you want them to be.

You won't learn any of it from a screen alone. It can only happen with real training partners, in real moments on the mat that test you.
